Malta has such amazing evidence of prehistoric structures and all of the related artefacts are stunning. This museum has a collection of wonderful artefacts from the main Maltese sites as well as models of each structure. Unfortunately, I didn't realise that I'd needed to book tickets for the Hypogeum before my trip to Malta so, it was good to be able to read about it in context with the other sites and to see the model. The museum building itself was historical and when we visited they were renovating the main room, I think that it used to be a ballroom at some stage. The decoration was exquisite so when the renovation is completed I'm sure that the room will attract many visitors on its own merits. Lots of interesting information in the whole museum including a section of coins. Great place!

Well worth a visit. Especially to see the neolithic antiquaries. Also gives you a glimpse into the amazing archaeological finds on the island. Fantastic collection of coins dating back to the phoenicians. Probably take you about a couple of hours or less to go round.

It’s a large scale museum which details the archeological history of Malta from thousands of years ago up until now with their various exhibitions. We used the Valletta ticket to enter but it is usually 5 euros for adults or 3.50 for students. There is an audiovisual guide for a deposit upon request. History buffs will love it.
