The Parish Church of the Assumption commonly known as the Rotunda of Mosta or the Mosta Dome, is a Roman Catholic parish church in Mosta, Malta, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. It was built between 1833 and the 1860s to neoclassical designs of Giorgio Grognet deVassé.It's structure is based on the Pantheon in Rome. It's facade has a porticowith six Ionic columns, which is flanked by two bell towers. It is said to have the fourth largest unsupported dome in the world. The church narrowly avoided destruction during World War II, since on 9 April 1942 a German aerial bomb pierced the dome and fell into the church during Mass but failed to explode. This event was interpreted by the Maltese as a miracle.

Very interesting as it's the third largest dome in Europe. The building is finely decorated and allows free of charge access, which is something good as you pay for entry in most places in Malta.

Stunning is the only words I spent 2 hours here. Taking lots of pictures. So ornate and such colours. We went the day after a festival so lots of extra statues around. Wish I had gone on the festival day and fireworks but the church itsself is worth visiting on any day. They do like your shoulders covered men and woman. They have some wraps if needed. Deffinately worth a visit.

Beautiful building, lovely history. Just feels like a tourist trap with no really feeling inside the place. I like to visit fro. Time to time, but I avoid anyone selling things.

Stunning.People told me i ought to visit. It does feel strange taking photographs in a church. To be truthful the last time i prayed was the night before the first gulf war started.i sat on a box and sang abide with me as i sat alone and looked at the stars.I always think of a mate of mine when i visit a church. His name was John,Royal Marines Commando, and sadly he's joined the ranks of the absent friends.I lit a candle, and said a few words and cut on.The church is pretty and when i was there was full of coach parties. If you are into such things i say go and take a look.
