I would give zero stars if possible. The air-conditioning didn't work, the screen wash was empty. On return the agent (Jason) said there was a scratch on the underside of the front bumper about 2cm long and made me pay 404.74€ for this. The front bumper was already badly damaged and hadn't been repaired. When I asked why does it cost over 400€ to repair a very small scratch he stated the whole bumper would need to be re-sprayed. Goldcar have clearly already charged someone else for this. It's a SCAM!!! Also the scratch was under the front bumper and I didn't see it until the agent had spent some time under there rubbing it with his hand. I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't done it himself. He was very rude to me and I didn't think it was appropriate in front of my children. I do not want my daughters to think this is an acceptable way for a man to speak to a woman. I now understand why they charge less for rentals than other companies, they scam their clients on return. I will not be using them ever again. DO NOT USE THEM THEY ARE CON_ARTISTS!!!

Don’t deserve one star! 2 days after returning hire car in perfect condition Goldcar have charged my credit card €770 !! There is no reason why and I have no paperwork or clue as to what it is for (also no ability to claim it from my 3rd party excess insurer). This is robbery, simple. I signed nothing to authorise payment. Fortunately my credit card company are fantastic and have raised a formal dispute. However, as others have said DO NOT use this company. They will rob you and scam you in a variety of ways.

So, straight off the plane and joined quite a long queue which turned out to be pretty static. I knew things weren’t going well when there were a number of people with raised voices and finger pointing with different staff members at the counter. The staff were getting a bit stressed and from what I heard, I considered bordering on being rude on a couple of occasions. We eventually reached the counter after 90 minutes and gathered that much of the issue revolves around them not actually having any vehicles and they were waiting for each one to be returned before another vehicle became available. So we got all the paperwork done and were feeling a little more positive there were some keys on the counter, and then we were told to come back in 45 minutes to pick up keys. At the moment we are sitting drinking coffee and just passing time before we return to pick up our keys. Will they be there? Will we finally be able to leave the airport? Watch this space for the next exciting instalment of the Goldcar rental saga! Well!! Went back for the keys and was told to go back again in another 10 minutes but still no keys! Just over 3 hours now and still in the airport and spent time looking at other reviews. Seems we will need to photograph this vehicle meticulously before we drive it Away. Assuming we actually get one!! Watch this space for more excitement. Update: After more delays and trying to ascertain from the guy dealing with us how much longer? He decided not to talk to us anymore. I fact non of the three staff would speak to us so voices started to raise and fingers started to wag. WoW!! This is where we came in!! Now we had a complete understanding of what was happening with the people in front of us earlier. After a further period of waiting we finally got some keys and found the car in the rentals parking area. Took Video of all the damage before we even opened the car so hopefully we won’t have issues others appear to have had later. This is definitely my worst ever experience with a rental company and my advice is Avoid, Avoid,Avoid. When you think to yourself that it can’t really be that bad, trust me, think again and don’t do it. You will be glad you gave them a miss.

I deeply regret that I have not read the opinions prior to using this scratch scam scheme. I felt like robbed. They charged me 560 euro for few scratches on the inner wheel which probably (I must have ignored them at the time of rental which were late evening). These all looked like set up. They threatened me not give me back the deposit of 2500 euro if I did not sign the papers accepting the scratch was my fault. The person was aggressive. I was in a hurry to catch a plane with 3 small kids. I cant believe this can happen in EU country. I am seriously considering to take a legal action against these guys.

Absolutely hideous experience from beginning to end. Scam artists, with very aggressive customer ‘service’. DO NOT USE!!! I wish I had of read the reviews first. I heard 2 other people complaining about the lack of clarity on insurance at the front desk and this made me not want to use, but they wouldn’t let us cancel without a massive fine. Also had to buy added insurance for peace of mind which was over 3x the cost of the actual hire. I was glad to lay the extra because when driving in Malta, you take your life into your own hands. No one uses indicators or lanes, and roundabouts are baffling to them. We parked in a very tight spiral carpark in our hotel and scraped the car coming out (the walls were lined with a spectrum of Car paint as it was so tight). When we told the cocky nasty attendant this, he made things as awkward as possible for us and said we should have reported the crime (!!! Crimes against a wall???) within 59min, to the police and we needed a report. I said I will go get the report, (I realised no point arguing with these people!) and he took great delight saying we won’t have time and then will be charged for returning the car late. Luckily, we brought the car back 2hr early, so we DID have time. We went to the police station, and the police man said why on earth are you being told to come in just for that?! My thoughts exactly. We got the report quickly and seamlessly, and took it back to the attendant, who then double checked the petrol to see if he could charge us for not returning it full. The attendant was clearly angry and stumped we had managed to complete his silly run around tasks. In conclusion, RUDE, AGGRESSIVE, SPITEFUL PEOPLE. So do yourself a favour and chose a different hire car company.
